Empowering Students in Math Practice

Giving confidence to a student that he or she can be successful in solving math problems have been a year long quest for me. The resource I used with most success is Khanacademy.org. This resource enabled me to put together a classroom for my remedial students who participated in my tutoring classes. Building confidence in students math practices by plugging the wholes in their previous knowledge was a success in great part to using this online free math resource.

Other amazing resources for math teachers I would love to share is Edulastic and Quizlet.

"Aranka Akunyili has strong knowledge of Math concepts and procedures.  Alongside this, she is able to use her experience as an engineer to bring math alive for students.  She always provides students various techniques to solve math problems allowing her to reach out to all types of learners.  It is through her experiences and offering several strategies to students that she is able to show students how math is applicable to real world situations and is able to provide them support so they can feel comfortable when solving them."

"In her first year at CMS, Aranka has demonstrated herself to be tireless in her efforts to help students. She makes herself available at lunch and after school and stays for hours after the kids have gone home. She fearlessly took on multiple content areas, and grade levels as a first-year teacher. Aranka openly asks questions to further develop her skills and knowledge of teaching in order to effectively share her thorough understanding of mathematical content. She generously offers praise to students and co-workers alike and collaboratively works within her PLC team as well across grade levels openly sharing her thoughts and experiences as well as gathering insight and knowledge from everyone on campus.
